Description

I finally decided to do my first experience in DS.

With a site rated Bortle 8.9, it seemed almost impossible to me to image such objects. So I chose the ideal target M 42 which had all the required qualities, brightness and presence of both bright stars and cloudiness.
At the hardware level, I simply added a Meade 0.63 focal length reducer to increase the C11 from 2800 mm to 1764 mm. Which is still too much for the DS.
Without guidance, I also had to do short poses.

I realized on 26/01/2022 a first series of LRGB images, without taking into account the importance of noise and believing that with a stack, as in planetary, it would be little present.Fatal error..
I immersed myself in reading a book published by a world-renowned French astrophotographer, Thierry Legault "Astrophotographie", to understand the importance in DS of making offsets, darks and flats. On the other hand, it was possible to do without an L filter, which I did on the evening of 02/02/2022, in order to be able to collect more photons.
I did not use RGB filters for this new test. With the Siril software, I was able to process my images correctly, with offset and dark subtraction. No flat, more useful for the wide field, according to my reading.
It was "magical" to see the cloudiness appear on the screen!

Well, even if I am satisfied with this first result, I measure the limits on objects of lower magnitudes, without specialized equipment and with a Bortle 8.9 sky.
